I didn't get to hunt at the Iceberg this weekend due to my son's baseball commitments both Sat. and today, but we did get out for a short hunt both days after he was done. Yesterday we hunted a foundation of a house near my home with some history. Long ago (from early 1900's until early 1960s) there was a horse racing track near my home. Nearby was the home of the owner's family. When I was younger and in my partying days, we used to hang out in the house, even staying the night, burning fires in the basement fireplace. The home was torn down in the early 80's, and now sits in a heavily overgrown wooded area. This is my first hunt there and after an hour we had found lots of trash and one 1924 wheatie and a 43P silver war nickle.
Fast forward to Sunday. Spencer had a pitching workout indoors, throwing to live batters in the 14-15 yr age group, all from area travel teams (Spencer is 12). He did VERY well, striking out 14 of the 18 batters he faced, and NOT getting a line-drive to the face as he feared!! Even the coach of the 15yr old travel team commented that Spenc had as much pop as most of his pitching staff (Spenc hit 68 a few times today on a Jugs gun!)
After he was done, we went BACK to the local schoolyard where one carries their digging tool prominently and keeps one eye trained on the field's perimeter at all times (ok...maybe it's not THAT bad but that's how I feel there)
I ended up there with a few bullets (one hollow-point copper jacketed large caliber that looks like it has bone fragments in it!) Some weird junk and two wheats (1924 oldest) a 1920 Merc and a silver cross that is real nice.
As Nate has finally convinced me, I will gently clean my silver coins and not polish them. The cross however I polished. ;)

Hope this weather holds!

HH all!!

Total finds for about three hours

Sweet stuff Danimal! Glad you guys are still getting out.
Hard NOT to mwl...what with 55 degrees in NE Ohio a week before Xmas!
I hear it's supposed to stay this way another week?...no white Chistmas here :'(

That's the one time of the year I like a nice deep snow covering. Now that I have this hobby, there's an upside to a green Christmas!

Great finds you two and it's great that your going to events with your son. Thanks for the post Dan and by the way Gary bought a 9x12 coil for his ACE 250 and mine is on the way. He is really finding a lot of good items with it and he has let me use it and I too have found some good things. I really like the way it sounds off when you get a target.

These were all found using the 9x12.

To me, pinpointing isn't as precise, and it more towards the oval's center than the stock coil...but when I am hunting fields and schoolyards, I'll go for the bigger "footprint" every time.

good stuff!

Good deal Dan. Glad you got some nice stuff in the short hunts you did. Nate still doesn't clean his 90% silver but he will do whatever means necessary on his war nickels. Some of those war nickels come out of the ground looking pretty bad.

Spencer sounds like he has a future in baseball. It's great when your kids do well in sports.

Hey Dan,really nice finds. That cross is cool-really like that.Tell Spencer WTG on striking out those older batters.I bet that was really exciting for him.

in the 14-15 yr old age i would almost prefer to try to hit a baseball over a sogtball....some of those girls have a lot of speed as well as putting alot of movement on the ball.and with the shorter distance reaction times are less....great job on the strikeouts.try gettin in the box with him doy....see how ya do

how about the bullet with the "bone" ;)

I wondered why no one asked about that. I was able to loosen one of the small whitish chips from the copper jacket that is spread open Baron, so whatever the hard white substance is, it was put there by the bullet.
