Nice site. Worth another hunt for sure someday! [emoji106]

Great hunt, congratulations! Your flower petal item may be the base of a candlestick, i.e., the drip pan, when folded up to look like a tulip. Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

The ring with the screw on it is probably a rein guide from a harness. I dug one the other day and somebody here told me what it was.

"Business trip stop off the turnpike hunt."

I can't believe you just pulled off the turnpike, rolled up to some "forgotten" old family homestead and started helping yourself to whatever you could find.
Everybody is giving high fives and atta-boys?

What constitutes a "forgotten farmstead"? Surely it belongs to someone?

If you did obtain permission (and just didn't mention it), please include it in your original message, so others can be inspired to seek permission or get good ideas on how to approach people to successfully get permission. They used to say "the future of our hobby depends on it".

Those are some cool finds! I too must say that is one beautiful Merc. The patina on it is great.

You are correct. Just randomly parking on the side of the turnpike, hiking into the woods doesn't turn up an old site. I use 4 different mapping sites and overlay software plus an app called LandGlide to determine ownership. I spend 5x more time researching maps than actual metal detecting. I hunt public land, state owned land (margins around highways & the PA Turnpike ), parks and schools. I've only done one permission site in 2 years, not my thing. I'm sorry if my post was misleading. Peace out!

Now see personally - I think that information really adds to the story so to speak. Maybe I read too much into things, but many of the posts here appear to be from guys just walking up to a good looking area and turning on the detector. Always missing the part about obtaining permission or doing research. Sorry for jumping on you.

Nice saves!
Great looking Merc for being 101 years old!
COINgrats!

Looks like an awesome spot for some treasure. Nice score on the old Merc dime in great shape. Cool whatsit relics too. Excellent research finding the public land and scooping up the treasure. Well done mate.:headbang:
