Farmhouse Site - 2 LC's, 1 British & 1 Canadian!

I received permission this morning to hunt an 1850 farmhouse site, I spent 3hrs here and found a couple of keepers. The yard at the front and sides had been over-seeded and raised 12", consequently I only found modern pennies here. The backyard provided most of my finds, around one tree on a small hill I found both of these coins. The first coin was an 1862 British One Penny, then came the 1915 Canada One Cent. The gentleman who owns this property has also given me permission to hunt an 1830 home site that was a stagecoach stop for years, this one will have to wait until Thursday!

The weather is still mild and the ground hasn't frozen yet, so I'm happy!

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Very nice. Congrats. GL&HH!

Thank you for sharing your hunt and those pictures with us

Nice job on the permission and good luck at the other site, you did well at this one.

Great finds buddy! That stagecoach stop sounds like a killer spot. Any place that saw a high volume of people way back when has got great potential. Can't wait to see what comes from there

Very nice finds Dave. Super patina on the Canadian.

Nice saves on the coppers Dave, and the homestead should give up more finds on an return hunt.

It seems that the installation of septic systems killed off either front or back yard of most homesteads, finds are new or very slim in these disturbed areas, not too many folks still using an outhouse today. Landscaping the original yards over the years is a negative effect on getting the older finds so the little spots that are left seem to produce some sweet finds.

Good job on the Large Cents and Good Luck at the 1830 site!

Very nice. Congrats. GL&HH!

Thanks very much Tom!

I've literally been dreaming about detecting this site for years now and I finally get the my chance this morning ... I'll definitely post anything that pops up! :occasion14:

I never thought about 'the septic tank phenomenon' before J!
I hear you about the amount of landscaping that was done over the years too.
From what I've found at some of these older properties, most of the overseeding & raising of the original ground surface seems to have taken place from the 1960's onwards. :icon_scratch:

Take care my friend,
Dave

Nice digs.

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

Thanks very much Steve! :occasion14:
I'm hoping for some baggage tags of some older coins at the very least ... but I don't want to be too optimistic.

Very nice finds, they cleaned up great, today is the day, I have a good feeling about that new site. When I used to get in and out of the stagecoach I always used to lose my change! lol

Wish I had some great news about my finds today ... but it's not all bad! :laughing7:

I'll be posting today's finds in about an hour.
