Greetings:
In the early 1970's I had a girlfriend. Her stepfather was an interesting guy. Anways, he showed me an old newspaper article (from the early 20th century) about a farmer burying all kinds of money. Some of it was found in milk cans etc. buried around the property. There were actually pictures of the finds. So, maybe the article was actually older than the date I indicated above.
I actually drove to the farm with my mother, spoke with the current owners and got permission to search. Then, being an easily distractible teenager never followed through. I remember the barn being gone and the owner mentioning buried fencing wire as an impediment to detecting (my Dad owned a Compass at the time).
A couple of facts: first, I think the articel came from the Youngstown Vindicator, and second, it was located in Mahoning County. Good luck.
