What is it made out of? Breezie

I thought a step likewise but now I think about it. There would be not enough support to handle a large person judging by the two small screw holes.

I thought maybe part of a animal trap but again, doesn't add up.

Hmm

Breezie, I think its made of brass. I dont think its a step. The holes for the screws are not that big. It acts like it screwed on to a peice of wood.

I think it is one piece of an antique curtain rod holder, and the scalloped edges were part of the decor. If not a for a curtain, something along those lines that would hold a rod or board. I really can't tell from the pic, but the arm looks to be curved/bowed; is that correct? Breezie

It is slightly bowed Breezie. You are correct.

I think it is a non slip buggy step. Remember that back in the days of the buggy, people were so much smaller(skinnier) than we are today.

I just dont think its a step, the peice that has the teeth is only 2 inches long, not a whole lot to put your foot on to step up on something. Not saying your wrong, but it doesnt seem like it is to me.

I've never seen a buggy/carriage step that looked like 'jaws.' LOL All of the non-slip ones I've seen had a grid pattern on the step tread, and were much more substantial. It looks strong enough to hold some type of rod , but not strong enough or large enough to hold a person. ;D Breezie

Agreed, it does appear "dainty" in the photo, too small for a step. Curious piece.

Its gotta be a non-slip step of some kind.
Maybe because it is so iddy biddy, it snapped off the first time used, and hence no wear.
;D

Looks more like a mud scraper. They were mounted on buggies, door steps etc. Tony
