Anyone got any idea what the three copper pieces are? They came from an 1800's farm/barn site last week. All three seemed to have been rolled to a point, when I found the first one I thought it was simply discarded scrap, after I found another two, I'm thinking they served a purpose. FWIW, there are no Copper Culture type sites around so I don't think they have any indian origin. Any thoughts?

pieces like this were often hammered into trees to poison & kill them off.

Cru is right about people hammering pieces of copper into trees, however the metal in these object are just too thin to hammer into a tree, most of the time I have seen copper rod used for that. I myself would think that these were some left over metal from a repair or something like that. Its just too hard to imagine what some pieces of copper metal were used for, there could be millions of things....

I don't believe they are from the Old Copper Culture either, they don't look nothing like the copper I find in Northern Wis. I would agree with Woody above!

Could be whats called "tinklers", made and worn by native americans. Once they made contact with europeans, they had acces to all sorts of metals.

Tinklers or janglers. They were called that because that was the sound they made when there was movement. I would search that site some more. There could be some great Native artifacts there!

I find thin copper every time I go out to my site. I just though it might be something used around the house, or farm. I have found shees of it, and lots of little pieces.
