farm gizmo late 1800s??

Found this Gizmo about 4 inches deep, The location is from the late 1800s, and From what I understand there was a farm there also a Military Installation. This Item is about 2 1/2 inches tall and has a small coil of thin wire on the inside, the base is threaded, I think mabe some sort of guage for an early tractor?? dunno

It's a bourdon tube for temperature measurement. The tube would bend when the temperatue changed and it would rotate a needle to indicate the temperature. It could be from a tractor but you usually see them in old mills or boilers. Anywhere temperature monitoring was critical. Hope this helps !!

It could also be a pressure gauge, Oil well gauges look like that as well, only pressure makes the tube expand and move the needle.

Yes pressure not temp makes that guage function good ID Gunny
