Another mild day & a nice dry surface to walk on.
We have gridded some distance passed Fan's Roman Site & we are still showing no signs of Roman activity. However, we did get in 2 hours:
2 Hammered (to me)- Grotty Mary Groat & a broken cut half of Ed I.
Medieval Lead Spindle Whorl
17th C Leather Mount
Knee Buckle
Hob Nail? (seems a little big)

OTWBTTC we spent 30 mins crossing Fan's Roman Site where I got a Roman Bracelet bit & then crossed the Metal Working Site where Cru'dad got 1 scrappy.

After lunch we continued the big grid for 2.5 hrs:
5 Roman Bronze Coins - 1 nice Dupondius of Vespasian AD77-78, Fides Publica, Lyon Mint.
1915 Sixpence
Cut Halfpenny of Henry III (Cru'dad)
Silver Denarius of Geta AD200-202, Laodicia Mint, Pietas - It's taken us nearly 250 Roman Bronze coins & a massive grid for me to get this one! Strange when you can get more Celtic Gold...lol

Congrats on the roman silver, saw you working the big field area ! Nothing on the civil war lookout site idea, saw lots of replaced digs there ?

Yeap, saw you arrive & leave.
The Roman Silver was in the area you saw us & not too far off the far ditch. We are coming up close to a lump that runs across the field, which I think is either a Roman trackway or a very old field boundary. My theory at this point is the small cluster of coins will finish there. If they are on the other side of the lump as well, then I'm wrong that its a Roman feature or we have to rethink why these coins are so far from the site.
My Civil War look out theory is pretty weak at the moment with only 1 cannonball (undated), & a few 17th C finds. Need much more yet for that one to grow legs. It's very sparse over there, most digs are junk, we have gridded past the far corner around the bend. Still have a fair distance to go until the drop off.
