Fancy Colonial Reins Guide, Saddle Strap Tie Downs, Buttons & More from Early Site!

I got out about 4 hours Friday to a colonial site I discovered a month ago & found some early pieces of history. I know something good is waiting for me, can't wait to get back! I was stuck in the shade under the trees most of the day, the heat was brutal! There's still plenty of open area to search but that'll have to wait until it cools down. It was good to get back home & save a little history. donno.pngflatos.pngsstd.pngrein.png

Great hunt. Looks like a promising site. Great presentation also.

Nice finds man. Thanks for sharing some COLONIAL! We need more of that on here.

That reign guide is cool - I haven't seen one like that.

Looks like you've found a good spot Josh. Like to see all the cool relics. Congrats

Some great finds! Your photos are totally awesome. How do you do make them look so museum-worthy?

Cheers,

Buck

Yes, you have an 18th C shoe buckle fragment.

What you call ''Saddle Strap Tie-downs'', I thought were matched with the Reign Guides? (not necessarily the one pictured)

Thanks Buck, I take the photos with my iPhone & then edit in Photoshop (I'm a graphic designer)

Thanks Cru, I'm not really sure but that makes sense.

Great job on saving historical artifacts! :occasion14:

Nice outing Josh. I thought those oval items were back plates for the reins guides. The guides have 2 protrusions on the back which held iron fasteners, and these were attached to an oval back plate. The small gap between the guide and back plate allowed a small strap to pass through freely. At least that's been my thinking.

Too small to match up to the rein guide. Here's a complete one (I think Buckleboys) & a friend dug a complete one at one of my sitesImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1468247656.809700.jpg

That's it, I got confused, it was those mystery U shaped pieces. Thanks for the reminder.

if the hit fits, you must dig it--hey, dig a rock to find a snake hiding under it, then dig the relic hiding under the snake :--). here a flow chart on how to proceed:
you
metal detector
dirt
rock
snake
relic
happy you>>>>make sense?. repeat as needed :--)

hello all,

there is is a lengthy thread in What Is It? About these items. Strap tie down was where the discussion left off, and they match the brass U-shaped pieces often found, which many diggers don't realize. Here is the link to the topic:

Nice colonial relics, especially the reins guide. Thank for sharing and keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the link, BB-interesting reading

I found two small brass pieces last week that fit together; now I know what it is.
