Last night I went back to the old fairgrounds. After the 1893 Barber Dime I wanted to get back out to the area I found it.
The Dime was only down about 3 inches. I had noticed that the dirt had been moved years ago in that area. It looked like someone scraped it down a few inches to make an entrance off the old road behind the park.
I went back out and worked it hard and slow until way after dark. I used my headlamp and just kept at it with my 5 inch coil.
Plenty of iron and trash in the area. Nails, nails and more nails.
After most of an hour I found an Indian. This is the worst condition IH I have ever dug. Still trying to get a date on it.
A few minutes after the IH I got my tenth or eleventh nickel hit of the evening. Dug it again, only showed about 4 inches down. Up comes a very nice V-nickel - 1899. Full liberty, and in just great shape.
Full day of work, and after 10 pm, so I called it a night soon after the V.
Next I will hit it again, with the procoil this time.
Good Luck,
Mark
