All Treasure Hunting
We only had a 2hr 45 minute window to hunt, so we carried on gridding the patchwork of fail crop.

Strange how these things work out - Dad checked our records for this field & a few years ago we spent some time scouting it & a fair amount gridding areas with little or no success - ie. 4 records total.
But when mother nature leaves us an area this time of year we just have to cross our fingers & try. Bearing in mind the area Winter Wheat will fail in has to be VERY wet for a very long time - normally the worst area to search for finds! (so you would normally conclude)
Yesterday we got 4 times the records in one go, today was a little slower & towards the last 20 minutes up popped a beauty!

5 Scrappies
Nice Gilt Button
Lovely Gilt Horse Leather Decoration - circa 1600-1700
Tudor Book Clasp (bent)
Civil War (17th C) period Lead Powder Lid
Corieltauvi Tribe Silver Unit 45-10BC:headbang: (VA844-1) Known as a South Ferriby Type, this coin is a long way from it's Tribal Boundry. A scarce find & my first of this type. We had 1 Celtic Silver last year & 0 the year before & I have one already before the 6 month period!
Seems to be 44 of these recorded on the old database & can't find any on the new, but must be about 50-60 recorded examples, so pretty scarce.

2014 - Heading towards a really great year!

Really sweet find Cru. I guess a lot of water and freezing cycles, plus some fieldwork by the farmer can work wonders.

I could only dream of finding something as awesome as that! Are you and Crudad the envy of detectorists in England?

Bannering the celtic coin! 50-60 known is beyond rare! If this doesnt make banner, nothing should!

I don't know if people 'envy' us (maybe some??), I would not rank us as the best/professional, we just enjoy the history & this great hobby.

Thanks but I don't think I need anymore banners, do you?

We have a slightly tighter use of the words Extremely Rare, Very Rare, Rare, & Scarce.

In British numismatics terms I think I'm using the right word - Scarce. It is however, a very rare find & many people who detect the UK are still looking for their first.

I seem to have over my fair share of real 'Extremely Rare' Coins.

Very nice find...you must have a very impressive collection of these ancients!

Lol! You deserve every single one of your banners! Quite frankly, I'm surprised you haven't hit 20 yet. Most every hunt of your is banner worthy by my book!

That's exactly what drives me. Detecting is a byproduct of my passion for history. pulling relics from the ground always puts my mind back in time and really is just a confirmation of my countless hours of research. it must be that times a thousand for you with all of the history that surrounds you.

Congrats! Celtic Silver is always a stunning find! I wonder that the button and harness mount are in that good shape for a wet spot in the field. Beauties!

I'm lucky British History is a vast subject, that I will never find the end of. I'm still pleased if I get a new type of button. This year has been an excellent start, I hope it continues & although I seem to hit these gems so regularly at the moment, I really can't believe it myself. Today, all I could say to Dad was 'I've done it again!' It was right down to the wire, & in my mind I was wondering what I would write about today....

Yes, most of the scrappies, are really scrappy, so a little strange.

wow...WTG Crusader...pickings are slim here in the good ole USofA, we only have a couple centuries of history or so to root around for, and you lucky devils have like...2000 years of history at your fingertips..literally. Always enjoy the UK finds, thanks for sharing..ddf

Fascinating seeing what you pull outta the ground over there......I wouldn,t sleep in anticipation of the next hunt.!!!

That is a awesome coin .... your collection must be something to see indeed !

Such a great history you have there .....congrats once again.

Another Awesome hunt from the both of you, the Celtic Silver is real cool, CONGRATS

Aw shucks, that's nothing.....last week I found a 1907 Indian head penny! Celtic silver.....bah......lol. Just kidding, Crusader. I always enjoy your posts, usually have to wipe the slober off my chin after looking at the pictures though....... Great finds, congrats on the beautiful tribal silver. I don't imagine I will ever find anything like that this side of dream world. Happy hunting.
