I headed back to the church site this morning to see if I could find a gold ring. Not this time, but one of my very first targets was Mercury Dime. It was at service walk coming from the parking area. It gave a very soft whisper audio response and the ID numbers were rolling around 78. I knew it was silver coin before I even dug.

I worked that end of the building, but I wasn't finding anything but clad coins. Not even a wheat penny, so I decide to move to the other end of the building nearest the street to if I could do any better.

Wow, I got out of the clad coins and starting digging wheat pennies, 7 of them. I worked a small area about 25 x 30 feet and managed to pop 3 more silver dimes. That small search coin is the ticket. I wished they a made 7 inch one.

Not wanting to be greedy, I decided to head for the house after a short 3 hour hunt. This was hunt #29 and my silver coin total for the year so far is 89.

Nice digs!

I have permission on a Catholic picnic area used from 1890 - 1910. I have dug plenty of IH pennies and V nickles but never a silver coin.

I think I will take your advice and switch to the sniper coil.

Thanks. I've found it's best to start out with the smaller search until I find out how many targets are in the ground. I've started out with the larger search coil first and didn't think that there were many targets in the ground. When I switched to a smaller search coil the same ground came alive with numerous targets. Larger search coils null out too many GOOD targets.

Nice finds congrats on the silver

Thanks. I'm thinking about going back to the church site tomorrow. We're are having a lot of rain coming in soon and I can rest then.

29 metal detecting adventures and 89 silver coins, you have a great start to the year. Love those mercury dimes and hope you check those 2 - 1945 mercury dimes for FSB as it's a key date.

havent had the small coil since the upgrade in awhile. guess ill switch over.

tabman,

Nice finds. When pinpointing do you find center to be right on the F75 label on the top of the closed coil? I use it as my reference point when pinpointing.

I liked my 5" closed coil so much vs. the 11" stock that I sprung for the 10x5 elliptical DD closed coil as the sweet spot between the closed coil convenience and sniper performance of the 5" coil with the increased depth performance (but not as deep) of the 11" open DD stock. The 10X5 coil gets the most run time on my F75 of those three coils.

Awesome finds!!! Way to score!

I put a concentration dot in the center of the search coil and use it to pinpoint by. Like you, my larger stock search coil doesn't get much use, instead I mainly use the NEL Sharpshooter search coil. I wish someone would make a 7 inch round DD search coil for the F75. It would be a great search coil, not too big or too small, but it would still get good depth.

Thanks everyone! I'm hitting it again tomorrow.

Dang tabman, you can stop pulling silvers at anytime now. 89 so far is incredible. Congrats on the amazing streak.

Congratz! My 17 for the year sounds so measly....
