I tried out my new SE in a park with the factory setting. Discrimination was at 15 and I only adjusted it to 25 and the detector became irratic until I brought the discrimination back to 15. I would have thought it would have run quieter? Any information would help. I am used to a Whites MXT and already wonder if the SE was a good move. Thanks :icon_scratch:

Do a factory reset. Ground balance. Then try it again.

It doesn't make sense that that is the reason it is erratic. Are you near electric lines, dog fence, are you wearing steel toe boots, is your cell phone turned off? You shouldn't have an increase in chatter at all when you raise the discrimination. If anything it should help silence chatter.

I agree and will have to play around some more.

I just spent a lot of time commenting on this post. As far as I can tell, it failed to post. I don't have the steam to try it again! To sum it up...FISCHER 70/75's are in a class of their own. They are not like Whites or Garretts. They are not silent search detectors and have a learning curve. Be patient and learn to use it. I still get some chatter, but routinely find small targets 10"+ with accurate TID's.

Thanks Clod, I have been reading that discrimintaion above 19 brings a higher gain. This is different for sure and will continue playing with it as it appears that once learned it should be quite a detector. Thanks for your input.

I just got a F75SE myself. I also have an MXT Pro. The F75 runs quietest with the discrimination set low. It is very chatty around any power sources. I usually carry two cell phones with me (work and personal) and they do no bother the F75 at any time. The F75 does all its discrimination in software. The MXT uses a potentiometer to adjust discrimination. The MXT also has better EMI suppression.

The F75 has a very high gain range. You can turn down the gain to 40 and still get excellent depth. Turn down the threshold to -3 or -4, run in DE mode and adjust gain down to the point where it is quiet. Some places I hunt I can run gain at 80 with a plus 2 threshold in Boost mode. In others I'm at -3 and 40 in Default. Sometimes it can help to change the frequency. I always reset the F75 detector each time I turn it on (trigger forward and menu pressed) and then adjust for the local conditions.

In places with a lot of noise (EMI) the F75 and MXT have similar depth capabilities. In low noise areas the F75 is deeper.

I have a 115kV line behind my house (50 ft from fence line) and I can get the F75 to operate quietly by reducing gain and threshold with discrimination at 4.

Here is a couple of settings I use, 1: JE mode, disc 4(high gain), notch 1, tones 3. I also run all metal mode. But the last setting had disc at 60, sens 35, and je mode. It ran quiet, and no bottle caps. I like the 11" coil better than the 5" inch. It is a beast, and you just barley have to crank it on for a city park. It is a noisy machine, run it as noisy as you can. But the last setting I gave will quiet it down.

The F75LTD is very sensitive, and because of this it can "chatter" if the sensitivity is too high or there is EMI present. The Boost Mode and 40-65 gain is deeper than most other Fishers running at 100 gain. Ground balance first, adjust channels, turn the gain down unless you are on a farm or big pasture. Listen for the high tones, they will break through the chatter. It has incredible response time, so when you get a high tone amongst iron signals, slow down and shorten your swing.
