Just got a f5 with the 11 Dd coil off someone that's only 4 months old... Got it home and its going crazy.. No matter where I set the gain or threshold it goes nuts..if I turn the discrimination all the way up it calms down a bit but never stops.. And it has no depth at all... I checked the basics like the batteries and made sure the cable was all the way in...if I push pinpoint it has about 3 inches of depth max.. Can anyone give me any advice? I have a bounty hunter time ranger and never no problems... Thanks all

I don't know if he knew it was broken or what .. He gave me the box it came in and it had the original packing label in the box and I doubt he remembered it was in their.. It says where he got it and its only 4 months old

It is a risk to buy a used detector, especially if you are paying big dollars for it...When buying a used detector, it is very important to test it out first. Take it outside and test it on a few coins and if you feel comfortable, then make the purchase. Otherwise don't buy it without going over it out first.

This is true when buying from craigslist. Most people and dealers on this website value their reputation and wouldn't sell a detector broken to another member.

Make sure you aren't running the gain too high, try 45-65, and take it to another site and see if the problem continues. They are very sensitive, and can be subsceptible to EMI. I know you checked the cable connection, but typically if it comes loose, you will also get a lot of chatter.

They are a great machine , but as mentioned very susceptible to EMI. Try moving to a different location away from flourescent lights, overhead wires etc, turn the treshold to zero and try the gain at 50-60. Also check the cable connector for tightness. I can't hardly run mine at my house(have to run -3 or-4 thres and gain at 30 max), but out in the field it runs fine.

See what happens when you ask experienced people? You get very helpful information... Out in the field it worked spectacular so I panicked for nothing.. Way superior to that bounty hunter time ranger... I can't thank you all enough

If you are in disc mode and not moving the coil over the ground, it's not that uncommon for an f5 to do that. Try taking it outside and set the gain and threshold at 12 o'clock position and move the coil over the ground. Keep it in motion, and dial the gain back if necessary and see if that helps
