F2 and F4 compared to others.....

I really like how fast the F2 is and how easy it is to setup. Is it worth spending the extra $200 more on an F4? Does the F4 have a fast recovery rate as the F2? How much more depth can you expect to get in fairly decent soil with the F4?

How about the discovery 3300, Titan 3000 and the F4? Are they close enough in performance that it would really not matter which one you chose?

I wish I could help...it is exactly the question I wish someone would answer also. Looking for a light detector for a significant other and prefer detectors in the 2.5 pound range... the prizm 6T looks good but it is 3# per Whites. I will keep my fingers crossed someone will respond. Kirby

It has been said by someone who's tested both that F2 & F4 are same depth in disc mode with 8" coil. I'm sure it's at least close. The F4 has 1 more sensitivity bar. Not sure if that makes it deeper.

The F4 has a deeper all metal mode that doesn't ID. The F4 comes with an 11" DD coil you don't get wit the F2 & should be deeper when using the 11" coil.

The Discovery 3300/Titan XD3000 has a ground balance that has some effect on disc mode. The F2 & F4 ground balance affects only the all metal mode.

The F2 notches seem to me harder to set than the F4 notches.

I got rid of my Discovery 3300, F2 & F4 & now use the F5 & F70. I've gotten 4" deep coins in bad soil with F5 & 5"+ with F70. These coins probably sat in those heavily detected places for 20-30 years. F70 was close to powerlines also with no problems. HH, George (MN)

If you get an F2 and want to upgrade to an F4 contact me. I'd be willing to "downgrade". I would expect that the spots I use the F4 at, the F2 would do a very similar job.

Like George, I had a Discovery 3300 and got rid of it. I really liked it, but it has this annoying issue of forgetting your notch settings when flipping between pinpoint and discriminate. The F4 fixed that plus I like the larger coil, and settings/response seemed a bit better too. Its truly more a Fisher than a BH in the way it acts.

I really like the F5 now. Its at least as simple to use and has many more features. I love being able to pick tone with more info, or choose simple beeps. I like the both the gain and threshold controls. My only nits is I would take a depth on discriminate (instead of iron info), and I wish switching from discriminate to all metal was a button, not a knob, but overall its cool.

So in short, I wouldn't consider the Titan/3300 as it would forget my notch settings if I decided to pinpoint. The F4 is a definite improvement. However, over the F2 probably not a big jump functionally, to me the large coil with the F4 is the big deal.

If you really want an upgrade get the F5. I currently have an F4 & F5.

i agree go for the f-5, I've had 2 3300's and a f-4 and the f-4 is a step up from the 3300,s but depth is not real good, I'm in some heaver mineralized soils

One thing I will say about the 3300 is I could tonal differences between items, that I still fail to be able to determine with my other detectors.

I _think_ it might be because my other detectors have VCO pinpoint whereas the 3300 it was just volume varied (not pitch variant). I could tell what an object was with it, although with VCO I would admit is a little easier to pinpoint with. This doesn't necessarily follow though, as my Sidewinder does not have vco and I can't tell a tone difference with it.
