I walked through the 1890's homesite after the recent rains to see what a mess it had made, and spotted a few shards that had been unearthed. Not enough of them to make an ID (unless someone recognizes that fragment of a logo). Not really even worthy of a report. But as I walked down across the field to pick up some trash I saw over there, I spotted the lug nut. My truck has been missing a lug nut for months, maybe more than a year, and apparently it's been laying out there in the field the whole time. That makes this the most immediately useful find I've had in a while.

Yeah if nothing else, you found your lug nut. But sometimes it's good just to get out and do a little reconnaissance to plan your next detecting trip. I do that often to see if a site is viable or not.

Practical finds may not be of historical interest but they have a value all their own. That's why bottles are often something I'll take regardless of age, if they're in good shape then I can reuse them. Good score on the lug nut, really, that's actually a good find
