After not hunting for over a week, I set aside 3-hours to hunt with Kimsdad
before I had to get home for a cool Father's Day dinner at PF Chang's.

The first half of the hunt was nothing to write home about. . . just clad. . . so I
headed into the woods for some serious oldies. The 'skeeters were as uncooperative
as usual but I didn't care.

After an hour of shotgun shell brass and no old copper or silver, I decided to call it a hunt
and as I started to head out of the woods to the car, I literally stumbled over the most beautiful
stone celt I had ever seen. It was half exposed near an old log and when I picked it up,
I realized that this was probably a valued possession of someone during the Woodland
Period over 700-years ago.

Thanks for looking and happy Father's Day :icon_sunny:

Oh Brother! You do have the eye! I can only imagine how many of us have walked over similar tools w/o the recognition. Great save!

Bet you had a grin on your face all the way home. Nice find Mark!

That is Beautiful........
I had no idea something like that could be found around here..... That sure opened my eyes.......
Killer Find..

You are a Master.... I will say I am learning from you, at what you find... What you find teaches us to be on the look out for these kinds of artifacts.

What a great Fathers Day find....

Congrats......

Yep! I agree!!! I would have walked right past that, too - just like Tim said.

I'm just going to start picking up everything I see and throwing it in my bag. I'll let you go through it after the hunt before I throw it all away... ;D

Great find, Mark!!!   :icon_king:

Man those mosquitos and that humidity were killers! :o

Wow! That definitely beats finding a few old coins! At least to me.

I found an arrowhead once in Georgia, while helping friends install a pool in their yard. It is the only Native American artifact I have ever found, even though I searched for more for many years to no evail. Your celt looks like it's in great shape. Funny how coins lost 80 years ago can be found 8 inches underground but a stone tool can just lay around on the surface for hundreds. Boggles the mind! lol

Congratulations!

Joe

Bud you yet again reset the bar for everybody - BIGTIME CONGRATS!!!!!!

It's funny you mentioned that, I was wondering the same thing.

Neil, I think that's a great idea and we should all do that at the end of every hunt. (I'll trade you this "brand new" Washington Quarter I found for that UGLY, WORN, electrical box copper "knockout". . . you know, the one with the stars around the edge that you found near those big old trees ::))

Thanks guys! I've always been hoping for something like this around these parts. . . ever since I was a kid. I guess you just never know it's out there until you see it staring you in the face. . . or after you almost trip over it :P

Thanks again everyone!
