Dad had lined up some fresh fields. But I was unhappy with yesterdays search, as I felt the Roman story (site) was in there somewhere. I had restudied the aerials & had a new target.
After 3 hours we had zero in on the area I had targetted & got the odd bit of pot, a better sign was the increase in Iron & Lead activity & finally we hit a few Roman Coins (9 in total). 1 Album coin of Arcadius (quite hard to get).

Part of a Medieval Ring Brooch
Lizzy I Hammered Silver Penny
Livery Button
Early Spoon Bowl

Having found the site we left the Wheat crop alone & moved back to Plan A.

We will return

Went back to plan A - which was a choice of 5 newly sewn bean fields (never searched). We hit one of the small ones with a nice looking hill. We had to detect blind as the aerials showed up nothing.

Had a wander looking for good signs, it took awhile but I started finding Roman Pottery shards (about 15 pieces in total), so started to grid that area. No Roman Coins :dontknow: First time this has happened with the Lead & pottery showing :icon_scratch: So further work is needed, as we only did just over 1 hour.

It all came good at the last minute, Dad dug/well picked off the top a lovely early French Jetton.
A button I haven't seen before - Copper front & tombac reverse, looks 18th C but a strange mix :-\
17th C Button

11th Century 'Urnes' style Viking Mount - you can see the 2 typical Viking Beast Heads (Snakes), & intertwinned body with a Niello inlay. I've not seen this type before & will need to research its function :headbang:

A good finish in a tough month :icon_thumright:

Most of them have nothing to see, the nitrates have distroyed them, no cleaning will help. When I get good ones, you will see OK  :icon_thumright: (we get 1000 a year, so we have to hit to odd good one) :laughing7:

Thanks a bunch Crusader!!

I'm eagerly waiting for those good romans...

i hate those chemicals on the fields, I'm sure its the same stuff that has been eating my coins!!

My best Roman Coins were last year from a wood  Cleared that site, so will have to fight the odds. My Roman Sites (& we have now discovered many) are not ready until Harvest (Sept) :'(

Yeah, you know how I like the thicker early type  Tend to hold up a little better.
