Im getting a "new to me" SE pro on tuesday. Was hoping some of the Explorer se Users could shed some light on this machine as Ive never used a Minelab before. Ive been researching and seems like this machine has quite the learning curve on it. If there are any tips yall could give me that would be most appreciated. Im really excited to try this out. I know I will gain a lot of knowledge with "hands on" experience. If there is someone that could explain the sounds I want and dont want, that would be helpful. Ive bet Ive watched the youtube videos on them 100 times. I just dont understand what numbers to look for or anything like that. Thanks guys,

Gary:thumbsup:

A lot will depend on what your hunting as for settings and sounds you want. With reading and rereading the owners manual and Andy Sabisch's book, the light bulb over your head will get brighter as you get some experience using the machine.

Another useful thing might be the Explorer Emulator. Go to thebeepgoeson site and download it and a couple target files. It will allow you to learn menu navigation as well as how the machne responds to certain changes and various targets.

Wow I haven't seen that. Thanks that might help a little.

Hi Gary,

Its good to see you were able to get a Minelab.

There are two keys to swinging an Explorer....

1 - swing the coil slowly....
2 - hunt by ear primarily, use the visual display to back that up. If it sounds good but the ID bounces, dig.

And the previously suggested Andy Sabisch book is awesome, well worth the read.

Good luck with it!

The sounds are key. Practice with various targets. Concentrate on the sound the good targets make. Remember those. When detecting a target, I concentrate on the targets that produce a high 20's number. It will bounce around, but if those high 20's show up , dig.

The Andy Sabisch book is a must read. Start with the factory settings since you are new to the detector....If it doesn't have a users manuel you can download one...Great machine.

First hunt with it today. I'm wore out!! I'm not used to digging so deep! I'm don't think I did too bad. A lot of deep clad and a couple of wheats. As with any machine I was fooled with deep rusty nails. I dug more coins than trash so I think I didn't do too bad. Thanks for the info guys

SLOW SLOW SLOW! Dig all repeatable sounds till you get the hang of it. You will notice a difference in time of a good target compared to a bad one. Stay out of really trashy areas till you get the hang of it.
