I need step by step instructions on setting up my explorer II for beach hunting. I'm getting too many sounds and didn't know which ones to dig. and I know I'm missing things I would like to keep. I'm comming form a whites 5900 to the explorer II and its so much different.
how slow should i swing?
any information would be a big help.
i have one week to learn

I can give you some advice. When using the Minelab EX2 out on the beach for the first time try using the factory presets setting and always noise cancel before you begin to detect. Remember the dry sand will be alot easier to detect then the wetsand. But always search them both. Activate fast recovery and audio 1. If your detector begins to emit erratic pops and chirps noise cancel again and lower the sensitivy setting on the detector. Listen to the thershold you want it to sound smooth and continuous, although it may go out at times, it still will be able to detect targets. Once you get more proficient with using the detector start using the Iron Mask setting to recover other targets. Most importantly practice and read your owners manual for tips. Also setup a test center for typical items you may find on the beach such as pull tabs, coins, watches, crown caps and trash. Dig high pitched fluety tones and low tones. Hope this helps!

Good Hunting!

Using the Explorer 2 on the beach, use the Jewelry pattern.Set your sensitivity to manual, not auto, ( auto has the little revolving line around sensitivity number). The machine is very powerful so dont set your sensitivity too high, usually setting 20 is ample. If you use higher settings it is important to swing slowly and evenly. You will get more false signals on higher settings in wet sand, these are easily recognised. They are not consistent, and tend to be less definite than a true target signal which is sharper. You will also find they move about or only signal in one direction. A true target gives a signal from all directions every time you pass over it.You will also get false signals on high settings if your swing is erratic in height, eg. if you lift your coil as you end your swing. On the beach get the best digging tool you can, preferably a long handle sifting scoop.Digging is easy on the beach so dig all signals.Remember if you eliminate alfoil, ring pulls and items of low conductivity you will be missing out on most of your Jewelry. If you look on Detector Reviews in this forum I put an article in there about where to set your machine for gold Jewelry. Good hunting Seeya Neilo ;D
