Found this sticking out of a creek in SW Missouri over the weekend. Not 100% positive, but it looks to me like the last few inches of a gun barrel with 2 round balls stacked on top of each other jammed in the barrel.

Looks like the breech end has been cut off , possible barrel split to over pressure

That's Cool as heck..
Banner in my book.

What caliber do you reckon it is 'or the bullets'.

I wish I knew, the balls look quite a bit smaller than the barrel so I'm not sure what was going on there.

I also found what looks like a possible horseshoe sharpened into a weapon laying about 10 feet away. I thought it was just a rusted out horseshoe until I brought it home & cleaned it up. What do you guys think?

I picture in my mind a settler being ambushed by natives, he fires off a shot but the gun over pressures. He throws it down & draws his curved blade knife as a last resort to defend himself and things quickly turn out badly for him. Or at least that's how my vivid imagination sees it haha.

That's just how worn out horse shoes look. I have found lots of shoes that are worn paper thin at the toe....yours is just broken at the thin spot.

Oh very good, thank you for the info Villagenut.

I'm definitely no expert and was just wondering about how that looks like a separate round pipe inside the iron and looks to be a different metal. I've never seen a gun barrel designed in that manner and all the dug ones I've held they are one solid piece of metal. I hope I'm wrong, but doesn't look like a gun barrel I've ever seen before. As I said though I'm no expert on gun barrels so I would love to learn if I'm wrong about that.

After examining the photos more closely. I'm 100% certain it's not a gun barrel. Notice the last picture you see threads. Gun barrels did not have this. It's some kind of piping and the iron could possibly be remnants of a iron nut.

Hey.
I'm learning here to, lol ; Heck I'm still wondering if the bullets are pointed.

Now that I look better, it does seem that the barrel would be kinda thin.

An interesting 'mystery' piece indeed.
