Looking for a different machine! I have owned a at pro and ace 350. What should my next machine be? I live in Natchez Mississippi. I like coin hunting and relics as well and would love to fine gold Jewelery help me out please. Budget of 1500 dollars. PS. Why should I get the machine you suggested no Garrett's!!

What is the soil matrix like by you, is it highly mineralized or low? Where are you looking to find gold, regular parks, fields and tot lots or freshwater or salt water beaches?

Where ever gold may be. We are going to Florida soon and would like to comb the sand. I don't know about the soil its just regular Mississippi soil I guess. And I have owned at pro. Do not have it anymore. Ran in to hard times and I sold it.

Am I the only one who, after reading the title to this thread, thought it was going to be about something else that's way off topic for this board? :laughing7:

yeah, i was scared to click it but my curiosity got the best of my clicker finger.
Thank gawd its not what i thought. i woulda barfed in my mouth.

I would go back with what you had. Garret at pro. best all around machine, even good for swimming in 10" of water or less.

as much as i looked into buying a Garrett i just couldn't do it, i have a buddy i hunt with that has an at pro and he finds good stuff with it. your not going to find good finds unless you dig everything, even with the higher end detectors, you never really know whats in the ground.

For what you're intending to do, I'd suggest checking out the Fisher CZ3D:icon_thumright:

I'd get a Minelab E-trac or a White's V3i if you don't plan on being in the water. Both are very versatile and stable machines that can give you all kinds of info before you dig.

I sold my at pro and now have a ace 350. I liked the at pro but got laid off so I sold it and now I would like to try a different brand all I have owned is garrett

I am retired and on a budgt. Given the money and the time to put into it, I think I would go with a Whites. I would at least give them a hard look before I decided. Most people here seem to be sold on their machine. It can be hard to get out side of that box. But, given your parameters, I'd try the Whites.

I have a good all around detector. But I was fishing around looking at different detectors and was taken back by the Minelab ctx 3030. New its well over your budget. But it has a built in gps, and is water proof. I think it would be a upgrade to the AT Pro, but you may just want to re buy the AT Pro you had. Anyway, Im looking hard at the CTX 3030. Just a thought.

CZ3d ($800) (killer old coin machine - deep - good on jewelry, decent on relics - good on salt beach - multi freq.) (limited coil selection)
At Pro ($600) (killer iron unmasking capabilities - deep - good on coins, jewelry, relics - salt beach not the best - single freq.) (limited coil selection - getting better)
Sovereign GT ($1000+) (killer in/on salt water/beach - deep - good on coins/jewelry/relics - multi freq.) (great coil selection)
xp deus ($1700) (great all around in/out of water, salt and fresh - deep - good on coins, jewelry, relics - multi freq.) (limited coil selection)

much more to these machines than I listed here but these would be my picks for the type of hunting you're wanting to / intending to do --- any of the 4 will hunt in all of the environments you describe and are good choices no matter which one you'd be using (some a bit better than others depending on where/what and vise/versa)

good luck with whatever you decide

I have an ETRAC and a Goldbug Pro and I must say that Goldbug is a silver and bullet finding rascal. Love my ETRAC but the Goldbug is lighter faster and cheaper. The ETRAC is my machine for home sites and trashy areas but I use the Goldbug in fields and other large tracts of land. Either one will serve the purpose.

Gotta love an experienced swinger! My tip is always wear a "raincoat."
