Excellent Anchor cuff buttons

This morning was cool, and dew dusted the freshly cut hay field near a spot where General Corwallis and his troops marched and hid out, preparing for a inevitable short battle. Times were unsettled here in the 1700's. Militia, Whig and the flamboyant Tory soldiers rode their horses dressed to the hilt. Over 200 years later, I enter in the same fields and forest's as these very people once did. I generally take a seat for a while before detecting, and imagine what it must have been like in those days living in fear like our forefathers once had. I envision horse and buggy's riding by, Ladies dressed in their fancy dresses and the proud men who protected them . Some of them just passing by on route to cross a large river nearby where it is slightly easier to cross, maybe some are heading to the local Blacksmith to buy some heavy gauge square nails or the weekly town meeting. Some families had left things behind that I am fortunate enough to find occasionally in the red hard packed clay. Today I dug a few more items like the really cool pewter shoe buckle or the lead seals used on fabric that came by sail ship.

I would like to know more about the Anchor Cuff buttons I assume are 1800's.

Those cufflinks are one FANTASTIC find!!! Your cleaning methods are excellent--and that is the first pair like that I have ever seen posted. I doubt if they're specifically military, but perhaps one of the Colonial Dudes can give you some more information. Congratulations!

I believe good imagination is rewarded by excellent finds like this shoe buckle and cuff links . I'm not an expert in cuff links but I believe they are the same era as your shoe buckle that is Georgian (late 18th to early 19th) .

Excellent post and historical reflections Mike!!! You made some great finds. Is that a tent rope tensioner in pic #14? Also, that looks like a part from a saddle on the bottom of the last pic with the nails in it it. Great set of of cuffs too. I attached a pic of a similar size cufflink with a floral motif that I dug last winter near a CSA camp. One guy on another treasure site said it dates from the mid to late 1700s. Don't hunt that site out until Dman and I get out there-LOL. Great post Buddy. If someone does not reflect on how soldiers felt before they went into war while relic hunting Rev or CW sites, they need to find another hobby. HH, Quindy.

Georgian, you say? fantastic,
They were dug near to what the locals refer to as, "The old Georgian road"
Of course, you can't see it now, but it's there.
