I'd like to say I found this, and I suppose I did, but it was left by the previous owners of our house high up on a windowsill. They must have left it by accident or just decided not to pack up a "rock."

No clue where they found it, but it's the first time I've seen copper (in malachite form which Cu2CO3(OH)2.

I'm phenomenally lucky in that I work in an Analytical laboratory where I have access to some very good analysts and some EXPENSIVE equipment (TEM's, SEM's, FTIR, XRD, etc...) and it only took a couple minutes to discern that the copper is in the form of malachite here.

Every time I look at it, I can just imagine what prospectors feel like when they stumble across a quartz outcropping with gold in a vein just like the copper is in this.
