Everything's coming up Rosies - Sorry Joe....
I got permission to hunt a property by my house, and went over there last evening for a couple hours. It's loaded with iron, but I don't think it's ever been hunted before. Within 5 minutes, I got a good signal and pulled out a '57 Rosie. Then an old hatchet head and a couple of 40's wheats. Then I got another signal that sounded good one way, but turning 90 degrees brough it down a few notches. Since it didn't move and didn't disappear completely, I decided to dig it. I figured it might be like Brett's quarter that was being affected by iron. In the hole was a '47 Rosie and a rusty nail. I think I'm scratching the surface at catching on with the SE and iron vs. silver.... Both dimes were heavily tarnished.
I also pulled out two large tokens. They read "New Weller's - Famous for Lobster Tails" on one side, and "Waukegan Road one block north of Dempster" "$1.00 in trade - Morton Grove - 1920" Judging by the dates of the coins coming out of this yard, I'm thinking 1920 might be the date the place opened, not the date the token was made. Anyone know anything about New Weller's?
