Everybody's Opinion on White's Classic ID Detector

My wife inherited this detector from her grandmother. She has little intrest in md'ing and I have always wanted to get involved in the hobby but never had the money to purchase a quality detector of my own. Can you give your opinion of this machine? I know it isn't a $1000 detector, but can I Please give honest opinions or advice on using the detector.

Thanks,

Jeremy

No it's not a $1000 detector, but that does not mean you cannot have fun and see if you really enjoy the hobby. It should do just fine and as any detector, you just have to learn and get a feel for it. Give it a whirl in some local parks or schools and see how you do and if you like the hobby, then you can go from there. Have fun, thats what it is all about.

It's a pretty good coin detector. If you cache hunt, you'll want something with a little more depth. Just depends on what you're hunting.

Really all that I am interested in right now is coin and relic searching around old home sites, schools, etc. I think this detector does ok, but I'm also new to the hobby. I have read some negative things about the detector in some posts and was looking for opinions about it.

Thanks for your replies!

Jeremy, I have one. It was given to me by my mother in law after father in law died. It is the only detector I have used. Not the best, not the worst. I have found a few silver coins and rings and tons of clad coins. Get out there and start to get to know it. You will find stuff with it!!!

Here is the link for the owners manual:

Happy Hunting,

I have a Classic 5ID. It's a decent beginners machine and you can have lots of fun with it. I found silver with mine as well as civil war relics. As always, the key to finding stuff is doing research and detecting in a place with good potential.

Enjoy.
