Yes,

That drives me up a wall. Finding a beautiful painting, then not being able to figure out the identity of the artist. Sometimes removing the back cover can lead to some clues, particularly to post 1900s art. Found a watercolor recently that only had a cartouche, no signature; but removing the back, the artist had printed his name, the date, and as an added bonus had a charcoal drawing of two flintlock pistols on the back of the canvas. By the way, love the painting.

I think by the look of the church tower you are looking at an Eastern European scene or even Russian. Its shape looks like an Orthodox church. Sorry, I cant help with the signature. Cant make it out in Latin and doesnt make sense in Cyrillic either. Hope this helps to narrow down the possibilities though.

After having a closer look at the signature I am almost convinced we are looking at a Greek picture. Im not too hot on my Greek alphabet but the 3rd and sixth characters could be "Omega" and the fifth "Theta" I still cant make it out though, maybe you have some Greek friends in your area? All the best on your search.

Adding picture of the back

Attached is a picture of the back.

Eastern European seems logical and Greek is very interesting. I know the owner traveled both regions.Back6972.webp
