Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Was carrying my detector horizontally through a field the other day.
It started making noises when I walked which I thought was odd. I thought it might be wet grass on the coil or maybe a dirty coil cover.
Got it home and cleaned out the coil cover.
Still when I bounced it up and down in a horzizontal (non-detecting position) I got some low conductor tones (and I was not near metal).
Been fooling with it. Pulled the coil connector off and reconnected the coil to the housing.
Does not seem as bad now.
It does not do it with my smaller coil.
Do the large stock coils false sometimes or do I have a bad coil?
Not sure what is up.

Think you are going to need a new coil. Have see some postings where people have taken apart ones that act like this. Found that it was issues with the wire loops not being secured properly or coming loose. When the wires move around in the coil as you swing it, gives all kinds of odd signals.

So you are saying this is happening internally to the coil? A mfr. issue?

Through further investigation it appears to be the plug on the coil that connects to the detector housing.
Some type of loose connector.
How or why I do not know? Never had this happen before with a detector.

Contacted Minelab.
They said they do not repair coils that are out of warranty.
FYI for anyone for the future.
All I need is a new coil wire installed...anyone have any ideas?
