Estate sale-old old with trunk no markings.

My in-laws putchased this trunk for dirt cheap at an auction/estate sale. I couldn't find any markings other than a "294" and "38" on the leather handles. It looks very old and not in the greatest condition.

May i ask what is dirt cheap, what was paid for this chest?
can we have better, close up pics on the top lid, the ornamental hardware and leather stamping
also pics of the lock and the latches, concerned the latches and lock modern

Actually looks in decent condition, maybe worth some bucks, don't give up on it.

I agree the pics aren't the greatest, they were taken pretty hastily. It is definitely not modern however. Inside the trunk there are multiple layers, it was functional which would also rule out the art piece/room decoration theory
