Error penny?

Hello everyone, was looking through some change and came across this penny. It 1987 and my first thought was maybe it's just worn down but I've never seen a penny that worn down so I was wondering if it was an error. You can barely see "In God We Trust" and just seems strange. Any input would be appreciated thanks!
