Hey y'all,

I dont know if this is an error, but there is a ring arround this coin. Its not just dirt or buold up, i can feel it with my finger nail. It about the same thickness ring as the eing around the back side, so I wonder if it was struck then flipped over and stuck again, idk. Is this worth anything? If you know anything about it, please reply to this thread. Thanks guys. 16652046024585446209202931194679.jpg16652047788094879742941644257091.jpg

Looks to be the same circumference as the reverse side's intentional border ring. Perhaps the die press impacted the planchet too hard. No idea of the value but well spotted! 😎👍

That is just damage from a coin rolling machine. Nicknamed "Ring of death", by coin collectors.

We have a winner! I have seen worse, however.

If the ring were raised, I would have some concern and questions. An incuse ring is nearly always a coin rolling machine, or other mechanical device capable of leaving a similar circular scratch or gouge on the coin.

Thank you, cutler, for your experience in the area.

Time for more coffee.
