Got this yesterday doing some CRH'ing. 1995-d. Is this a strike thru error? Reverse is toast. Value? Looks like the die was grease filled when it was struck. dime.jpg

Wow! That's cool-looking! I think it is either strike through grease or severe die deterioration (more likely). None of these would bring much of a premium, but due to its severity, it might bring a couple bucks.

Thank you. It is severe. I found another dime a little off center, but it's just a little bit off.

I can guess what die deterioration is. Any other thoughts?

What does the obverse look like? A couple of minutes on a wire wheel can make the reverse look that way. What does the coin weigh?

Post Mint man-made damage! While someone may have tried to make the coin appear to be a Capped Die Strike or severe Grease Strike, IMHO it is neither. Note the lack of a rim on the Reverse which should still be there even if the coin was the victim of either.

Obverse is fine. I'll be able to weigh it in a few days. My old scale broke and I bought a new one and it's not here yet. Maybe Monday.

What Frank said. Someone went crazy with a grinder or something.
