I'm guessing PMD is post mint damage? This coin talk is still new to me.

That is one awesome coin you have there. I m going to say it was literally only struck on one side. I don't think that is PMD.

This looks like a capped die error to me, the upturned edges of the "blank" side seem legit. Hard to say without seeing it. Is it copper or zinc? It looks like a zinc to me. If zinc it would be hard for it to be post-mint as the copper coating is pretty thin. Naturally there are different types of this error depending on how long the die is "capped"

Not sure how to tell if copper or zinc?In the coin I have you can barely make out the outline of Lincoln.Looks like the pic from the link of the struck through die cap coin except the image on my coin is not as visible.

I'm leaning towards a capped die strike too, for the same reasons as Nick stated. I do see some slight cupping on it. But the obverse looks a little too smooth. It could just be the photo though. Seeing it in person would make it easier. Take it to a coin shop, let them have a look.

We tried the homemade scale and we're thinking zinc.

Capped die nice find, its impossible to grind off the entire image of the obverse without disturbing the rim.......:icon_thumright:

You're probably right, I was thinking only of a blank planchet, and knew it had to be struck on both sides together.

Sometimes the die is capped with a blank planchet and sometimes it is capped with a struck coin.......:smileinbox:
