1st - I noticed this was your very first post casadmack74 - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).
2nd - Whatever you finally decide on - please consider buying one from one of

What part of treasure hunting are you interested in? Some things will take different equipment. I’m guessing you are looking at metal detecting? You will want at least a reasonably good quality detector and a pinpointer and a shovel to suit your use. If you want to detect underwater you will need a MD that is waterproof. Any detector that is newer and has discrimination for iron will be very helpful.

Let us know what sparked your interest. Treasure hunting is the best!!

Basically just like the title says I enjoy hiking, so I think this would be a good hobby to pair with that. I just don't even know where to begin and don't want to spend money unnecessarily on something that not worth the price tag.

Minelab Vanquish (multi frequency), Nokta Simplex(waterproof) or something 2nd hand. When hiking I run mine in all metal, just incase I run over a meteorite. Detecting is fun though and you might start hiking just to get to the detecting spot. Dont forget a pinpointer, or better yet a Nokta pulse dive for searching swimming spots

Something you can easily fit into a backpack. On the inexpensive side ($300 or less) Simplex, one of the low end First Texas models ( they can break down shaft into two equal parts) vanquish 440 is excellent but too big for a backpack. At high end
( up to $650) either XP Orx or Deus Lite). Most basic suggestion minelab go-find. Don’t forget digging implement and basic pinpointer ( can get both for about $100 if you try)
