I’ve been so busy and it’s been so hot here in Virginia, I’ve done very little relic hunting this summer. But I was able to get out to a new permission in western Virginia recently and made some decent finds. The property dates to the early 1800’s and, after detecting it for over 3 hours, I’m convinced it’s never been hunted before. TONS of signals. I decided to spend most of my time cherry picking the high tones. I started out with the Garrett AT Pro and the 5x8 coil, but then switched to my Minelab Equinox 800. Though the AT Pro is a great machine, it did not match the Nox in the iron patches on this property. I was particularly impressed with the Nox hitting the fire damaged Peace Dollar (my first) among lots of iron signals. This spot on the property was evidently an old building that had burned down. Did the same with the 2 cent piece – some great detail on that! Also a first. I’m learning to slow down a little with the Equinox. Big difference. Also recovered a nice silver washed colonial dandy button, a heel plate and an iron stirrup. Can’t wait to get back out there and dig some of those mid-tones! Thanks for looking.
