My goodness what a day we have had, new field…, new level of finds !

first off himself found this amazing little bust, I see a head shoulders with hair on the back… 😍 then this lead “bobbin” it weighs 218g, a gorgeous little “fish” brooch, a livery button with initials on it, part of a fibula brooch (?) a strap end, 2 muskets, because every field has em, 2 pot mends, a fork and bit of a cup (?) 2 lead weights, bit of a crotal bell and a patterned curved bit, more buttons 2 pre dec coins and 2 scrappy Romans!

Absolutely perfect day, weather was kind, digging was easy and finds were everywhere! xx

What a productive time you had today.
I'm wondering if himself's head is a tad swollen finding the bust?
Cause mine would be also, certainly a wonderful piece.
Cool button with the 3 initials also.
So I would assume this field will be a return site.
Congrats to you both.

Ha! Yes Himself was pretty smug.. especially as he has found very little on our previous outings 😆 bless him… i think it could be a Roman Steel Yard weight… but not sure🤔 xx yes hopefully we will get out on Tuesday and Thursday and explore some more 😆 xx

I was just gonna ask what your thgs were on the bust. Awesome day with some early history. What do you date that site to?

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

So I think the Big Bobbin its a Roman 'cotton reel' trade weight. 218g is almost spot on for a Bessis which was 2/3 of a Roman pound, ( 8 Roman ounces = 219.3g ) apparently!!! 😆 xx

Update on the Button… it seems to be Dumfriesshire Fox Hounds.. 🤔 we are a long way from Scotland 😆 xx

Another possible id for the little fish 🤔 circa 1500-1650 😆 i think this field is going to keep us busy for a while 😆 xx

😂 ha!! wasnt sure if that one would get past the Mods 😅

The Roman Bust can only be 2 things; a mount or if there is a slot in the base, part of a spatula. Can't remember the Roman name for it but basically like a Knife Terminal.

Picture 9 on the slate, left hand piece. Is the top section to a 6th C AD Saxon Girdle Hanger. Scarce find.

I think that Fork is giving me the finger....
