I've been doing general detecting with my trusty Tesoro Silver uMax and am happy with it. But I would like to start detecting in some local shallow streams and occasionally ocean or fresh water beaches.

What's an entry level detector that will work in these conditions? It will only be used occasionally so I don't want to break the bank!

Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions.

That machine hasn't been made yet. Saltwater is a whole different animal than dirt and freshwater detecting. Saltwater gets expensive, starting at $600.00 for a "Hits on ALL metal, can't Discriminate" pulse induction machine, and going up to $2,500,00 for a multi-frequency VLF. Do your research on the web, Garrett AT Pro for dirt, freshwater.

I didn't know different detectors were needed for fresh water and salt water!

What type of detector wouls I need for fresh water streams and shallow creeks? I would use this a lot more than a salt water rig.

If you don't drop the detector and keep the controls dry you'll be fine with any detector, but it only takes one mistake. All search coils are water proof. Many would suggest the AT Pro, but there are better choices.
