Hey all, I had posted pictures of this find several months back and at first I had thought it was some sort of native american relic. To my surprise the item that I found was the side plate to a musket, most likely a hunting fowler. I showed the piece to some who works at Fort Ticonderoga and they had told me that it was early-mid 1700s, possibly of French origin. (not sure how they could tell, but I will go with that for now). This is probably one of my favorite finds that I have made. The image shows what appears to be a hunting dog (short tail) the dog looks to be sniffing the ground, possibly catching the scent of the hunt? In the background are what look like teepees? This was recovered in Western Mass and I know that teepees weren't really a thing here. My guess is that they are trees possibly?
