But what was it from? Seems odd to have been engraved on both sides.

your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Sure it's gold? Looks a lot like some foil seals I've found.

haha, most certainly it’s gold. Wouldn’t be so carefully hand engraved if it wasn’t. Reads 20 on the F75. We’ve dug silver colonial engraved items in the same field. The solid gold thimble my wife dug read a few numbers higher.

Not much to go on... The floral etching makes me think mourning or remembrance jewelry.

I can't speak to both sides being decorated. It seems too thin to just be a pendant. Maybe part of a brooch or a bar pin?

Maybe part of a locket, so the engraving on both sides would make sense...
O perhaps something older was cut up (a cigarette box for example) and part of it reused to create something smaller, with new engravings on the front?

All of these are good guesses. If I can find more of it, perhaps we can get a more solid ID. Odds are slim though. Even with the colonial Spanish cap badge I dug in this same field I only have half, and a piece of the other half, after 8 years now of hunting that field and multiple plows. :(
