Hi everyone. I found this item at a 1740s house site that was occupied all the way through the 1950s. Numerous colonial artifacts as well as 19th century items have also come up. I believe it to be made of brass. It’s a fairly thin piece with a similar engraved design on either side. The sides are slightly different from each other though. There is a hole towards what I believe is the top. My first thought was maybe a bird, like a dove or something? But even then I don’t know what it would be for and how old it could be. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve taken a pic with a quarter for size. Thank you in advance! Yes I think a chime piece also. Looks like a bird sitting on a nest. Interesting.
