"English Make" sounds a lot like "Made in China". Looks old, though. I have a similar one that also looks flimsey. I will have to see if it is English Make.

Mojjax ~

Although I didn't see your exact padlock in the catalog, I decided to do a little research history on the company itself. It appears they were actually called ...

"Benjamin Walters & Company, Ltd."

Here's what I found so far. But there doesn't appear to be very much written on the company ... ( If I find anything else of interest, I will post it).

I'm beginning to think their term "British Make" is like us saying "American Made." :icon_scratch:

SBB

~ * ~

BENJAMIN WALTERS AND CO. LTD. 24 NORTH STREET, WOLVERHAMPTON.

Listed as general lock makers, of all kinds of rim and mortice locks and latches, combination and night latches, and every description of brass and iron cabinet locks. Also Bales & Walters improved patent locks and latches. They made their own cabinet locks and Bales latches but acted as wholesale factors for many other types.

They were situated upstairs at 24 North Street, opposite the Molineux Hotel. Closed when the premises were required for the building of the Wolverhampton ring road.

Existing in 1914 (catalogue) 1974. Nothing else known.

Actually, you may have one that works. I had a trunk that was without a key. My locksmith friend that lives across the street told me to come a get a box of the keys he has accumulated over the years for trunks. Within 20 tries I had 2 that worked. But I do think that the steamer trunks of the very early 1900s were very limited on key options.

Now, Got milk??

With the rhetorical question of "Got Milk?" I was rather hoping for a milk mustache on a beautiful babe, like on the commericals. I guess SBB got about as close as it gets around here.
