A while back I started a Facebook group called Ring and Jewelry Finders Lost and Found Service. I thought it would be a good way for detecting enthusiasts around the world to network to recover lost articles whether around or outside their local area. People who have lost items have come to the group for help as well.

One of the members of the group has gotten a bit discouraged because the public spots in his area are off limits to detecting and he does not know where he is allowed to go. We chatted a few times and I gave him some tips about joining a local detecting club in his area. I also sent him a link to an ad for a lost engagement ring in his area. This was around two hours ago. He replied that the spot was just up the road from where he lives and contacted the woman to get more info.

I just got a message with a photo, that he found the ring and is on his way to return it to the woman right now.

This is the first recovery I am aware of from my group, and I hope there will be many more to come!

Facebook members feel free to join the group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/181484328598678/

that's one of the rewarding parts of our hobby Neil, love to hear those kind of stories :sunny:

Nice looking ring, I am sure the young lady was thrilled to get it back.
A big congrats to you and your group. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

Nice job...now he should ask the woman if she knows of anyone that has an older home that he could detect. Since he can't find an area to hunt he should ask for a referral.

I like the way you think!

N.J.THer, Exactly what I would tell him to do, ask for a referral. Especially since she will want to do something to help him in return.

What a blessing for the lady that lost that ring! Karma will play a big part in the future hunts for the person that found a returned that ring!
Way to go....I hope that I will be on your site posting finds and finding the owners. :hello2:

WOW! That is some ring and there will be one thrilled and relieved woman when it is returned. He has added another voice to the cause of metal detecting. The idiots who pass idiotic laws and rules against metal detecting, arrowhead hunting, and other worthwhile pursuits, will be beaten back in time, the state has too much power to control people as it is and that needs to be curbed drastically.

He just told me that she insisted on giving him a $200 reward! :headbang:

That ring looks like it cost a few bucks. I would turn down the reward

That's awesome.

That's awsome Neil! :icon_thumright:

... I just clicked the fb request link too :icon_thumright:

Nice job on the find and return!!!!! Also...great idea for the Facebook page!!!

Great story and congrats to him on returning the ring.

Neil,

I'm not on facebook... if anyone ever contacts you from Bedford County PA needing help get in touch with me, I'll be glad to assist. :)

I am sure that the disavowed owner of that ring was thanking her lucky stars when you retrieved that find

and brought it back to her. :o That shows his honor and good character. I applaud him on a terrific

gesture of kindness and wish I could have seen her face when you returned it! Nice Job :icon_thumleft:
