Met up with fellow Tnet’er leonidas in Marietta, GA at one of his sites that he invited me to and had a great time. I was late in arriving, but leonidas had graciously cleared the area of weeds prior. We ended up saving a little history before the rain. He dug a nice minnie and some folded brass and I dug this rifle hammer, possibly Enfield.

Went back to using my XP Deus HF round coil at 28kHz.

Nice save..
Ive never been able to figure how in the world those are found by ther self
If youve ever tried to take one off a gun they are tuff
You have to pry them off once you take the screw off
the shaft is tapered and its a press fit....??? Oh well good find
Lil bit

Not an Enfield, 1855 or 1861 Springfield for sure. You can tell by the distinctive shape. Nice Civil War find!
