Had planned on one last hunt for the year but the forecast was freezing rain and it did not look good but I thought I might give it a try anyway. So today I overslept the radar showed a mess on the way and not much time to detect before it hit. We also had plans for later in the morning so that made the time even tighter I decided I would take a chance and I am glad I did.
I went to a park about 5 minutes from home that has sports fields ponds and a tot lot. I opted for the area of the football field where I found the 1722 Woods Hibernia half penny last year. I was hoping for an oldie or a goodie but knowing that both were long shots.
The ground was partly frozen with a few icy puddles scattered around and it was about 35degrees. I broke out the CZ 21 and off I went. I found a few coins and in about 10 minutes I got a nice mid tone and dug a silver colored Madonna pendant. 15 minutes later a had a high tone that sounded like a quarter close to the surface so I grabbed my Garrett carrot and located the target with my trowel I took a small plug out and using the pinpointer located a gold colored ring. Normally gold is a mid tone unless it is 10k. Sometimes they are high tones. The ring was all tangled in roots and mud so I put it in my finds box to check when I got home. About this time the rain started. I kept at it as I gradually got colder and the rain started soaking through my layers.
In 2 hours I ended up with 33 coins with a face value of $2.68, a silver plated pendant from Italy, a senior key pendant from 2014 with a silver earring attached and the ring. The ring is gold plated silver marked 925 so that’s why it was a high tone it has a heart shaped garnet and a small cz in it. It is a real nice looking ring. A shame it is only gold plated.
The ring has a makers mark I am unfamiliar with. If anyone recognizes it I would appreciate any info you can provide.
All in all a good hunt to end the year. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things. Happy New Year and keep swingin.
