✅ SOLVED End Table? Plant Stand? Opinions Needed!

Found this in my attic. Must have belonged to my grandmother. It's an 11" square "table", but it's only 17" tall. Too wimpy to put much weight on it, so what was it used for? Seems too low to be used as a plant stand or as an end table. Any guesses as to the age of it and what it was designed for would be appreciated.

There were all sorts of different size tables, yours doesn't appear to be cut down and looks like mahogany from what I can see.

Table dates from the 1920-1930 time period and aa is right. it's a telephone table with space for a note pad and a telephone book. It could sit by a sofa or a bed...

phone sounds right, just measured my dinning chairs
seat is at 19 inches from floor, the era of that table
is when the phone was stuck where it was with short cords
