Found this on a river coastal site down here in the SC low country. When i first dug it i figured it was some ornamental piece but i couldn't figure out what kind of metal it was. I posted it with some more finds of mine and nobody said anything about it. So i put it in a little tub of ACV for about 5-7 days and today while i was brushing/scrubbing it with a brass brush it cracked in half and i saw the copper. Then i took a hammer and busted the rest of it off. It looks like a brass/copper nail but it doesn't have a head to it and it looks like it never had. So here are some pics maybe one of y'all will know something. Thanks.

If it feels solid and heavy then I don't have a clue. Otherwise, it looks (to me) like it might have been a piece of copper tubing with some sort of insulation over it, after going through a fire.

I think VMI is right. We did find a lot of these copper nails at this site. It being encrusted is what threw me for a loop. Thank y'all
