EMERALDS

I think you should be able to see the shine from
an emerald with just a flashlight.

Yeah if color is good enough a flash light is good, you can also pan the out they do that in india(?)
UV light won't do it here.

Panning is out of the question because what I am looking for is Emeralds on the beach.

A shovel, something to classify and a flash light could be good then.

You can use and Emerald Filter. It's sold to jewelers for sorting Emeralds from other lookalike green stones. A full set of filters run about $35.00.
