It took a lot of dirt to make this and you can not find where it came from, they built it one basket of dirt at a time.View attachment 908278View attachment 908279View attachment 908280View attachment 908281View attachment 908282 Built sometime around 1200AD. In this area most around top mounds are burial mounds, but this one was for temples and a few burials, it takes up a least 15 acres of land and you can hunt creeks with in 1/4 mile of the site.:laughing7:

Is there a mote around it? The one near me has a mote dug and they figure that is where most of the dirt came from for the 3 mounds.

There is no mote, they think they took down the end of some other ridges close to the site, but with erosion like it is here they will never know. We have what is called loess soil goes from top to 90 ft deep in some area's, was blown in after the last ice age.

Thank you for posting. I am interested in Mounds & the people to inhabited the area. In Wisconsin, we have Azataln State Park.
Have a good day. Kat.

The mound builders was an interesting time in ancient america. Thanks for sharing. So many have been dozed down and few preserved. Be a good thread to start to just post mounds.
