Today, some friends invited us to hunt a new site with a late 1700s home on it that is very famous. The widow lady who owns it is very nice and has a good knowledge of the history of the home. Among my finds right outside of the yard fence was this hex shaped piece affixed to an iron disk. It's painted and you can see a bird's body and feet like it's perched on a branch. It's obviously post 1900 and nothing exciting but I am curious to what it was. I had guesses from our hunting party saying an old broach and an emblem from an old car. It would have been 2x2 inches. We liked what we saw there today and plan to go back soon as it will be a good place to hunt this summer as livestock keep the grass grazed low. We just started finding the good stuff away from the old home just before we had to leave. We will definitely have a post next time. Thanks and don't let me down Breezie, BB, and kuger, Quindy.

Hey Vol, I don't think it is a brooch. The painted scene has an Asian theme. It appears to be 'japanned' tole painted button, but I can't say for sure until I see a pic of the back. Is the metal on top tin? What size is it? Interesting find, Breezie

Breezie, it measures 2 inches by 2 inches and the round iron disk is about 1/8 inch thick. The iron disk serves as a backing for the thin tin front and has no traces of an attachment device. Thanks breezie, Quindy.

perhaps part of the case to an old octagonal pocket watch.
