See if it will flake out, use a knife. If it does then it is mica. If it doesnt then maybe something to get happy about.

That doesnt look like flakes. But try to crush one and see. Should flake or you can break the rock and look at the vein to be sure.

First of all, where(approx.) in Texas? Then how soft is it? Rock looks like hardened sediment, but Hill Country gold has been washed out and is sometimes found like that. Just don't know. Don't know where you are and that makes all the difference. Waters of the Llano River will produce some, NW of Llano contains running and dry creeks with gold, but they are on private property. Have been to some of these areas with UT and other geology groups.

Approx 150 miles north of Llano? Glen Rose. The rock itself is hard but I can pick these fragments off pretty easy. Some are further in and I can't get to. That's pretty cool. Anything I find that "could be" something is fun. :icon_thumright:

Glen Rose is where the donosaours laid the tracks in the Pulaxy (sp). Looks like petrified dino poop to me.

You could always take the pieces to one of those "we buy gold" places and see if they can test it for you.
